The Humber has one of the largest concentrations of food manufacturing, research, storage and distribution in Europe, as well as being at the centre of the UK's seafood industry.

Bridlington is the UK’s largest shell fishing port with a multi-million pound export market.

The sector covers the whole food chain, from agriculture to manufacturing, processing, packaging and retail distribution, with 12,500 people across the region employed in food processing and manufacturing.

Key employers that are proud to call the Humber home include; AAK UK, Aunt Bessie’s, Coldwater, Country Style, Cranswick plc, Golden Wonder, Greencore, Icelandic Seachill, Lincoln & York, Pipers Crisps, William Jackson Food Group and Young’s Seafood.

Greater Grimsby, known as Europe’s Food Town, is home to a high concentration of food producers, with the highest number of cold storage facilities in the country, as well as well-established and leading companies in logistics, engineering and packaging services.

The town is synonymous with seafood and represents 70% of the entire UK seafood processing capacity, supporting over 5,000 jobs and attracting significant investment in production capacity.

The progress of the Humber’s food industry is supported by research and development facilities which offer access to high technology environments to enable innovative product development; including the £5.6m Humber Seafood Institute at Europarc (Grimsby) which engages in collaborative research with industry leaders to optimise and exploit market and trade opportunities.
