The Humber has a thriving digital economy, worth an estimated £7billion, and is building a reputation for digital innovation and creativity across the UK and worldwide. According to government statistics, Yorkshire and the Humber is the UK’s most innovative region.

The Humber has a higher proportion of people working in skilled trade occupations than the average for Great Britain.

The Humber is home to an established digital cluster which services some of the biggest brands in the world, and is supported by established, region-wide collaborations between organisations, businesses and individuals, including Humber Digital, The Platform Initiative and Hull Digital.

The region offers an ideal set of circumstances in terms of tech start-ups, combining excellent connectivity, low cost base and tech/digital incubation space. Investments taking place in the local communications infrastructure include the roll-out of superfast broadband with Hull-based KCOM investing £60million in fibre technology and the launch of one of the first 4G wireless networks in the country.

In 2016, a new £15million purpose-built Centre for Digital Innovation opened its doors in Hull’s Fruit Market – part of an ambitious redevelopment programme which forms Hull’s new creative quarter

The region produces a considerable talent pool of people with the relevant skill sets to support this growing sector, with the University of Hull, Grimsby Institute and Hull School of Art and Design all highly regarded as digital, gaming and creative specialists.
